About Me After my beginnings in Las Vegas, Nevada and a childhood filled with travel in the intermountain West, my family settled in the San Luis Valley in the early 1980s. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Adams State College (as it was known then) in 1992, and finished my Masters of Science in Biology from Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, AZ) in 1995. In 2005 I was hired by the Monte Vista School District to teach middle school science (7th grade), where I spent 9 excellent and memorable years. I transferred to the high school in the fall of 2014, and I am currently teaching Intro and General Biology, AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Ecology, Earth Science, Atmospheric Science, and Science Seminar (our Science Fair class). I have an extensive background in wildlife biology, physiology, and resource management, and I continue to work for and collaborate with several state and federal agencies as I have since the 1990’s. I also serve as a board member for the Friends of the Dunes, a non-profit that supports research and education at the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. I am very involved with the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair, serving as a Scientific Review Committee member both locally and at the state level, as well as volunteering at the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair. One of my great passions is research, whether it be simple or complex! I love guiding students along their journeys as they become student researchers, and I strongly hope they consider careers as professional scientists. In summers I work for the BLM as a biologist, monitoring and collecting wildlife and habitat data on our extensive public land resources. I also enjoy playing in the outdoors with activities such as photography, fly fishing, backpacking, and hiking with my dogs whenever I get the chance. I currently coach HS Knowledge Bowl, MS Girl’s Basketball and MS Track. My favorite color (of course) is GREEN!! Go Pirates!
