Education has been a liberating experience for me throughout my life, and so choosing the career path of a perpetual learner was an easy decision to make. I am thrilled to be starting my teaching career at Monte Vista High School!
I have always been an avid reader and writer, which cultivated my passion for the arts. I began my journey in education here in Monte Vista where I was born and raised for most of my childhood. In 2009, I moved to Colorado Springs where I completed high school and community college. I achieved an associate’s degree at Pikes Peak Community College in December of 2015; shortly thereafter I returned home to the Valley where I recently completed my Bachelors of Arts in English in December of 2017. I endeavor to continue to foster my own skills in analysis, collaboration and application, in the hopes that my students will follow my example. I plan on pursing a master’s degree and later a doctorate.
I currently live in Alamosa with the love of my life, and a very sassy three year old daughter. My world basically centers on her, but when I can sneak a few quiet moments for myself, I enjoy reading and painting. I also have a fairly serious Harry Potter obsession, and I actively binge watch popular shows on Netflix.
I chose to teach because I believe that learning gleams with an astonishing promise of an empowering future. Plato said that “the power and capacity of learning exists in the soul already.” We all have the power to take learning into our hands and advance our own intellect and teachers have the ability to act as a guiding force in the pursuit of knowledge. I aim to guide students on their own explorations in education. Here’s to a great year!
